How to Improve English Writing for RBI Grade B in 30 Days

Many RBI Grade B aspirants believe that improving English writing requires several months.

That is not always the case.

You may not completely transform your English in 30 days, but you can make substantial improvement in exam-oriented writing if your practice is structured.

For RBI Grade B Descriptive English, you do not need literary English. You need to communicate ideas with:

Clarity + Relevance + Structure + Accuracy + Conciseness

A focused 30-day plan can help you improve Essay Writing, Precis Writing and Reading Comprehension together.

First, Understand What You Need to Improve

Before beginning your 30-day preparation, identify your actual weaknesses.

Ask yourself:

  • Do I struggle to generate ideas?
  • Are my sentences grammatically weak?
  • Is my essay poorly structured?
  • Do I repeat the same points?
  • Can I paraphrase effectively?
  • Do I struggle to compress a passage?
  • Are my RC answers too long?
  • Can I complete descriptive tasks within time?

Different weaknesses require different solutions.

That is why your preparation should ideally begin with a diagnostic attempt.

Days 1–5: Diagnose and Build the Foundation

During the first five days, do not rush into multiple mocks.

Focus on understanding the three major writing skills:

Essay + Precis + Reading Comprehension

Essay

Learn how to structure an essay:

Introduction -> Main Arguments -> Analysis -> Challenges -> Way Forward -> Conclusion

Take one topic each day and spend 10–15 minutes generating ideas.

You do not need to write a full essay every day.

Precis

Practise identifying:

Central Idea -> Core Points -> Examples/Repetition to Remove

Take a short passage and try to explain its central message in 2–3 sentences.

Reading Comprehension

Practise writing short answers in your own words.

Focus on answering exactly what the question asks.

By Day 5, you should have a clearer picture of your strengths and weaknesses.

Days 6–10: Improve Sentence Writing

Now focus on expression.

Take ideas from banking, economics, technology or social issues and convert them into clear sentences.

For example:

Weak:

AI is very useful but it has many bad effects also and people can lose jobs because technology is increasing.

Improved:

Artificial intelligence can improve productivity, but rapid automation may also displace workers performing routine tasks.

The improved sentence is not extremely sophisticated.

It is simply more precise and controlled.

During these five days, pay attention to:

  • subject-verb agreement;
  • articles;
  • prepositions;
  • sentence length;
  • punctuation;
  • repetition; and
  • word choice.

Maintain a Personal Error Log containing mistakes from your own writing.

Days 11–15: Build Essay-Writing Ability

Now increase your focus on essays.

Choose themes relevant to RBI Grade B preparation, such as:

Economy | Banking | Financial Inclusion | AI | Employment | Education | Climate Change | Demographics | Governance

For each topic:

Step 1: Generate Ideas

Think across different dimensions:

Economic | Social | Technological | Institutional | Ethical | Environmental

Step 2: Create an Outline

Decide the paragraph sequence before writing.

Step 3: Write

Attempt complete essays under a reasonable time limit.

Step 4: Evaluate

Check:

Relevance -> Content -> Structure -> Analysis -> Grammar -> Conclusion

Do not memorise model essays.

Build the ability to construct an essay independently.

Days 16–20: Strengthen Precis and RC

Now shift greater attention to compression and comprehension.

Precis Practice

Take a passage and follow:

Read -> Understand -> Select -> Compress -> Reconstruct

After writing, check:

  • Did I preserve the central idea?
  • Did I retain essential points?
  • Did I remove examples and repetition?
  • Did I write naturally in my own words?
  • Did I follow the prescribed word limit?
  • Is the title appropriate?

RC Practice

Practise different question types:

Factual -> Explanatory -> Inference -> Analytical

Use:

Question -> Relevant Evidence -> Direct Answer -> Brief Explanation

Avoid copying large portions of the passage.

Days 21–25: Start Timed Sectional Practice

At this stage, your writing should begin moving from practice mode to examination mode.

Attempt Essay, Precis and RC separately under time limits.

For example:

Essay – around 35 minutes

Precis – around 25 minutes

RC – around 25 minutes

These are practice benchmarks rather than fixed examination rules. Follow the official RBI instructions applicable to your examination.

The objective is to discover:

Where are you losing time?

Maybe your essay planning takes too long.

Maybe you repeatedly rewrite your precis.

Maybe your RC answers are unnecessarily lengthy.

Identify the bottleneck and correct it.

Days 26–28: Full Descriptive Practice

Now combine the sections.

Attempt a full descriptive mock under examination-like conditions.

During the mock:

  • do not use Google;
  • do not use ChatGPT;
  • do not use Grammarly;
  • do not consult notes;
  • do not check model answers midway.

Your mock should reveal your actual independent writing ability.

After completing it, evaluate not only the final answers but also your process.

Did you finish on time?

Did your writing quality decline towards the end?

Which section consumed excessive time?

These observations matter.

Days 29–30: Correct, Rewrite and Consolidate

Do not spend the final two days attempting mock after mock.

Instead, review your previous writing.

Look at the errors you made on Day 1 and compare them with your recent attempts.

Identify recurring weaknesses.

Then rewrite selected answers.

For example:

Original Essay -> Feedback -> Rewrite

Original Precis -> Correction -> Rewrite

Weak RC Answer -> Improved Answer

This final correction stage helps consolidate what you have learned.

Your 30-Day Roadmap at a Glance

DaysPrimary Focus
1–5Diagnosis + Fundamentals
6–10Sentence Writing + Grammar
11–15Essay Writing
16–20Precis + RC
21–25Timed Sectional Practice
26–28Full Descriptive Mocks
29–30Correction + Rewriting

The plan is simple, but consistency matters.

How Much Should You Write Every Day?

You do not need to write a full essay, precis and RC every single day.

That can quickly become mechanical.

A better approach is to practise with a specific objective.

One day may focus on essay idea generation.

Another may focus on precis compression.

Another may focus on RC inference questions.

Another may focus entirely on correcting grammar errors from previous answers.

Remember:

Quality of Practice > Quantity of Attempts

Don’t Spend 30 Days Only Reading

Reading editorials and reports can improve your awareness and vocabulary.

But reading alone will not develop descriptive writing.

The improvement cycle must include:

Read -> Think -> Write -> Evaluate -> Correct -> Rewrite

Writing is a skill.

And skills improve through deliberate practice.

The Bank Whizz 30-Day Approach

At Bank Whizz, the objective should not be to make every candidate follow exactly the same routine.

The better process is:

Diagnostic Test

Identify Individual Weaknesses

Targeted Practice

Evaluation

Correction & Rewrite

Timed Practice

Full Mock

One candidate may need more grammar work.

Another may need idea-generation practice.

Another may have good English but poor time management.

The preparation plan should respond to the actual weakness.

Final Takeaway

Thirty days can be enough to make a meaningful improvement in RBI Grade B Descriptive English—but only if those 30 days are used systematically.

Do not aim to become a perfect English writer.

Aim to become a better examination writer.

Work on:

Clear Sentences

Relevant Content

Logical Structure

Precis Compression

Precise RC Answers

Grammar Correction

Time Management

And most importantly:

Write -> Get Evaluated -> Correct -> Rewrite

If your Day 30 answer is more structured, concise, accurate and controlled than your Day 1 answer, your 30-day preparation has worked.

That measurable improvement should be the real goal.
