Importance of Descriptive sections and objective sections in the final selection of RBI Grade B 2023

Comparative analysis of importance of descriptive sections and objective sections in the final selection of RBI Grade B

The RBI Grade B exam consists of both objective and descriptive sections. While the objective section tests the candidates’ knowledge and aptitude in various areas, the descriptive section evaluates their ability to express their ideas effectively in writing. Both sections are important, but their relative importance in the final selection varies depending on the stage of the exam.

In Phase I of the RBI Grade B exam, only the objective section is evaluated. The marks obtained in this phase are used to shortlist candidates for Phase II. Therefore, the importance of the objective section is higher in Phase I as it determines the candidates’ eligibility for the next stage.

In Phase II, both objective and descriptive sections are evaluated. The Economic and Social Issues and Finance and Management papers are objective, while the English Language (Writing Skills) paper is descriptive. The marks obtained in Phase II are used to determine the candidates’ ranking, and only those who rank high enough are invited for the interview in Phase III. Therefore, both objective and descriptive sections carry significant weightage in Phase II, and their importance is relatively equal.

In Phase III, only the interview is evaluated, and the marks obtained here are added to the candidates’ Phase II scores to determine the final ranking. While the objective and descriptive sections are not evaluated in this phase, the skills tested in these sections are still relevant as they reflect the candidates’ ability to think critically and express their ideas effectively, which are important qualities for an RBI Grade B officer.

In conclusion, the relative importance of the objective and descriptive sections in the final selection of RBI Grade B varies depending on the stage of the exam. While the objective section is more important in Phase I, both sections are equally important in Phase II, and in Phase III, the skills tested in both sections are still relevant for the interview. Therefore, it is essential to prepare well for both objective and descriptive sections to perform well throughout the exam and increase the chances of selection.
