When will RBI Grade B Notification 2023 release?

No exact dates has been announced by RBI to release RBI Grade B Notification 2023. However, based on the trends from previous years, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) usually releases the notification for the RBI Grade B exam in the second quarter of the year, between the months of May to July. It is important to note that the official announcement for the notification release date is made by the RBI on its official website, and candidates should keep checking the website for updates.

What is the age limit for posts announced under RBI Grade B Recruitment 2023?

As per the 2022 advertisement –

II. Age Limit (As on January 01, 2022):

a) A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on the January 01, 2022 i.e., he/she must have been born not earlier than January 02, 1992 and not later than January 01, 2001.

b) The upper age-limit prescribed above will be relaxed:

i. up to a maximum of five years for candidates belonging to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe if the posts are reserved for them;

ii. up to a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates if the posts are reserved for them;

iii. up to a maximum of five years for ex-employees of banking institutions whose services had to be terminated for reasons of economy or because of bank going into liquidation and personnel retrenched from Government Offices after at least one year’s service and currently registered with Employment Exchange;

iv. up to a maximum of five years in the case of ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs who have rendered at least five years Military Service as on January 01, 2022 and have been released;

on completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within one year from January 01, 2022) otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency; or on account of physical disability attributable to Military Service; or 

on invalidment.

v. up to a maximum of five years in the case of ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of five years of Military Service as on January 01, 2022 and whose assignment has been extended beyond five years and in whose case the Ministry of Defence issues a certificate that they can apply for civil employment and that they will be released on three months’ notice on selection from the date of receipt of offer of appointment.

vi. For Gen/EWSs up to a maximum of 10 years in the case of PwBD. For SC/ST PwBD candidates up to a maximum of 15 years and for OBC PwBD candidates up to a maximum of 13 years, subject to reservation of vacancies under the respective post. Relaxation in upper age limit for PwBD will be subject to the posts having been identified suitable for such disabilities.

vii. For candidates possessing M.Phil. and Ph.D. qualification, upper age limit will be 32 and 34 years respectively.

viii. For candidates having experience as an officer in Scheduled Commercial Banks, Public Sector Insurance Companies and All India Financial Institutions (AIFI) namely Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank), National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), National Housing Bank (NHB) and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), as also prior experience in Reserve Bank of India, upper age limit is relaxed to the extent of number of completed years of such experience subject to a maximum of three years. For such candidates, upper age limit should not exceed 33 years including experience. For experience, probationary period will not be reckoned. For details, please refer Note IV below.

ix. For eligible staff candidates, the relaxation in age limit is according to RBI circular CO. HRMD. No. G-75/ 5599/ 05.01.01/ 2013-2014 dated December 20, 2013.

x. For recruitment to the post of Gr. B (DR)-DEPR/DSIM candidates having Master’s Degree with Research/Teaching experience at a recognised Indian/Foreign University/Institute will be eligible for relaxation in upper age to the extent of number of years of such experience subject to a maximum of three years. For experience, probationary period will not be reckoned.

Note I: – Candidates belonging to either the SC or the ST or the OBC category who are also covered under clauses of para 3(II)(b) (iv), (v) and (vi) above, viz. those coming under the category of Ex-servicemen or PwBD, will be eligible for grant of cumulative age-relaxation under both categories. Other than these two categories, cumulative age relaxation will not be available either under the above items or in combination with any other items.

Note II: – The term Ex-servicemen will apply to the persons who are defined as Ex-servicemen in the Ex-servicemen (Re-employment in Civil Services and Posts) Rules, 1979, as amended from time to time.

Note Ill: – The age concession under Para 3 II (b) (iv) and (v) will not be admissible to Ex-servicemen and Commissioned Officers including ECOs/SSCOs, who are released on own request.

Note IV:

Scheduled Commercial Banks – Commercial Banks included in the second schedule of the RBI Act, 1934.

Public Sector Insurance companies – The companies reckoned by DFS ((i) Life Insurance Corporation of India, (ii) General Insurance Corporation of India, (iii) The New India Assurance Company Limited, (iv) United Insurance Company Limited, (v) The Oriental Insurance Company Limited, (vi) National Insurance Company Limited and (vii) Agriculture Insurance Company of India Limited.

All India Financial Institutions – Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM Bank), National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), National Housing Bank (NHB) and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).

Q. Can final year students apply for RBI Grade B Recruitment 2023?

Based on the eligibility criteria mentioned in the previous year’s notification, final year students were not eligible to apply for the RBI Grade B Recruitment. Candidates who have completed their bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification with the required percentage of marks and meet the other eligibility criteria are eligible to apply for the RBI Grade B exam.

Q. How many attempts are specified to appear in RBI Grade B Officer Exam?

Number of Attempts: Candidates belonging to General Category/EWSs, who have already appeared Six times for Phase-I Examination for this post/s in the past, are not eligible to apply. No such restriction applies to candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC/PwBD, if the posts are reserved for them.

Q. Is there any negative marking for RBI Grade B Exam?

Yes, there is negative marking for the RBI Grade B Exam. One-fourth of the marks assigned to the question will be deducted for each incorrect answer. However, there is no negative marking for questions left unanswered or for those marked for review and then left unanswered.

For example, if a question carries 1 mark, then 0.25 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer, and if a question carries 2 marks, then 0.50 marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer.

Candidates are advised to attempt the questions carefully and only answer the questions they are sure about to avoid losing marks due to negative marking. It is also important for candidates to manage their time well during the exam and not waste too much time on any particular question.

Q. What is the selection procedure followed for RBI Grade B Posts?

The selection procedure for RBI Grade B Posts involves three phases:

Phase-I: Preliminary Examination

Phase-II: Mains Examination

Phase-III: Interview

Phase-I: Preliminary Examination

The preliminary examination is conducted online and consists of objective type multiple-choice questions. The exam consists of four sections, namely General Awareness, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and Reasoning. Candidates have to clear the sectional as well as the overall cutoff to be eligible for the next phase of the exam.

Phase-II: Mains Examination

The mains examination is also conducted online and consists of both objective and descriptive type questions. The objective-type questions are from Economic and Social Issues and Finance and Management, while the descriptive section consists of essay, precis and reading comprehension. Candidates who clear the mains examination will be shortlisted for the interview round.

Phase-III: Interview

The interview round is conducted for candidates who have cleared the mains examination. Candidates are shortlisted based on their performance in the mains exam. The interview panel evaluates the candidate’s knowledge, communication skills, confidence, and other relevant factors.

The final selection of candidates is based on the marks obtained in the mains exam and interview. Candidates who qualify for the RBI Grade B Exam are appointed as Grade B officers in the Reserve Bank of India.
